The tea farmers of Jiyuan Village smiled...

“Due to the rainy and snowy weather, this year’s tea yield is lower than last year’s—but our income might actually be higher,” said Cao Xintai, a 72-year-old resident of the Jinzhushan group in Jiyuan Village, Ehu Town, with deep emotion. “All of this is thanks to the village committee, which has played a crucial role in connecting people and providing great assistance to the villagers.”
It turns out that Cao Xintai’s family has seven or eight mu of tea plants, which brought in over 8,000 yuan in income last year and serve as their primary source of economic revenue. However, a recent icy and snowy weather event froze the newly sprouted tender buds, causing a significant drop in tea production. With fresh leaves now unsalable, this year’s income is looking bleak.

Jiyuan Village in Ehu Town is a remote administrative village located in a mountainous area with difficult access. Once designated as a provincial-level impoverished village, the villagers’ lives have gradually improved since poverty alleviation efforts were launched. The entire village has over 1,500 mu of tea plantations, which have become the villagers’ primary source of income. Ling Yunfei, the Party branch secretary and village chief, keenly observes the situation and feels deeply concerned. Rather than waiting passively for assistance, they prioritize addressing the urgent needs and pressing concerns of the villagers. On one hand, the village proactively reports to the town Party committee and government, seeking their support and mobilizing resources to tackle these challenges. On the other hand, the village organizes Party members and cadres to set up two fixed tea-buying stations and one mobile station, helping farmers sell their tea. With strong support from the town Party committee and government, Jiangxi Fupin Hui Agricultural Comprehensive Development Co., Ltd.—the town’s provincial-level leading enterprise in agricultural industrialization—has stepped up its efforts, providing active assistance to tea farmers by purchasing, processing, and marketing their tea products.

Yu Wenfeng, Chairman and General Manager of Jiangxi Fupin Hui Agricultural Comprehensive Development Co., Ltd., stated: “As a provincial-level leading enterprise, we have both the responsibility and the obligation to help tea farmers overcome the difficulties in selling their tea and ensure that, despite this year’s reduced tea yield, their income remains stable.”
